Welcome to the Miami Seniors' Center, a vibrant and welcoming community hub for individuals aged 60 and older, along with their spouses, located in the heart of Miami, Oklahoma. Our center is dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors by providing a space for socialization, wellness, and learning. Importantly, seniors do not need to reside in Miami to participate; we welcome all who are 60 and older.
The Miami Seniors' Center was conceptualized in 1989 when Chamber Director Debbi Durham recognized the rapidly growing senior population in Miami. Understanding the importance of catering to this significant segment of our society, the Chamber identified the need for a dedicated space where seniors could gather, engage in activities, and access essential services. The vision was multifaceted: to offer noon meals, host social functions like dances and arts and crafts, and provide access to medical care and investment advice.
In 1990, the center obtained its Certificate of Incorporation as a not-for-profit organization, marking the official beginning of its journey. By 1993, the center's foundation was solidified with a clear mission and a dedicated team working tirelessly to bring the vision to life.
In the fall of 2024, the City of Miami assumed operational management of the Seniors' Center. The newly appointed 501(c)(3) board continues to advise the center's staff and provide recommendations to the Miami City Council, ensuring that our programs and services remain aligned with the community's needs.
Located at 2104 Denver Harner Dr in Miami, Oklahoma, and our facility spans a generous 10,360 square feet. This space was completed in 1990 with a $570,000 investment, made possible through a combination of foundation grants, community contributions, and support from local businesses and individuals. In the fall of 2024, many much-needed renovations have taken place with grant funding through Grand Gateway.
The Seniors' Center is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults in our community by providing a welcoming and supportive environment. We are committed to promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being through a variety of educational, social, and recreational programs. Our mission is to empower seniors to lead fulfilling, independent lives while fostering a sense of belonging, dignity, and respect. We strive to be a hub for connection, resources, and support for seniors, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to thrive.
We invite you to become part of our vibrant community. Whether you're looking to meet new friends, participate in engaging activities, or simply enjoy a delicious meal, the Miami Seniors' Center welcomes you with open arms. Join us and experience the warmth, joy, and connection that our center offers.
At Miami Seniors' Center, we are proud to have a dedicated team under the leadership of the Miami Public Library and the City of Miami. The center is managed by Callie Cortner, the Director of Library, Arts, & Culture, alongside Assistant Library Director Caitlyn Baker. Together, they bring a wealth of experience and passion to our community.
Their vision is to enrich the lives of our seniors by fostering a vibrant and inclusive environment. With the support of the remarkable library team, Callie and Caitlyn are introducing fresh faces and innovative programs to the center. These new initiatives aim to engage, inspire, and connect our community members through a variety of events and activities.
There will always be a city staff member on hand should you need anything, and we invite you to meet our team and be part of our growing family!
